Shallotte leaders were unanimous in expressing their opposition to offshore drilling during a Board of Aldermen meeting Tuesday night.
The Trump administration has proposed allowing drilling for gas and oil off the North Carolina coast, but many lawmakers in the state, including Gov. Roy Cooper, have called for an exemption from testing and drilling off our shores.
The Shallotte resolution, which was approved in a unanimous vote Tuesday according to Mayor Walt Eccard, says offshore drilling will put our state's environment, beaches, marine resources, and local economies at risk.
