WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - The UNCW men's basketball season ended two wins shy of a third straight trip to the NCAA tournament.

Northeastern beat the Seahawks 79-52 in the semifinals of the Colonial Athletic Association tournament Monday night at the North Charleston Coliseum.

UNCW finished 11-21 under first-year head coach C.B. McGrath.

"I think they should take some positives away from the improvement they made," McGrath said of his players.

The Seahawks struggled stringing wins together, recording consecutive victories just twice all season, but they closed out the season winning three of their last seven.

"Looking back, all the guys did get better. They did show progress," said McGrath. "But I told them and challenged them that they need to get a lot better. Starting Day 1 next year, we have to be better defensively than we are today."

Statistically, UNCW was one of the worst defensive teams in the country. The Seahawks' 83.4 points allowed per game ranked 342nd out of 351 Division I teams.
