AUGUST 16, 2005 -- We are in the heart of hurricane season. While our area has not seen any hurricanes yet, there's still a threat that one could hit at any time.
Officials in Brunswick County held a hurricane forum at the Southport Community Center Tuesday to help prepare residents in case a hurricane heads our way.
News 6 Chief Meteorologist George Elliot was one of the speakers.
Emergency management officials spoke about evacuation plans.
While many of the residents are familiar with hurricanes, as Southport grows, there are those that have not experienced the storms.
The hurricane forum is held every two years.
