(RNN) – A woman lost her fight with breast cancer 18 hours after getting married.
Wearing a wedding gown while lying in bed, Heather Mosher married David Mosher at St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center in Hartford, CT, on Dec. 22.
Her friend and bridesmaid Christina Karas snapped a photo of Heather raising her arms in celebration from her bed while wearing an oxygen mask that has gone viral.
"Nobody thought she would've made it that far. She proved them all wrong and that's what that photo says to me," her husband David said to WFSB.
Heather had to whisper her vows, some of the last words she said before she died.
"That moment right there was like, 'Death, I’m not afraid of you! I am so in love and I am going to celebrate that love right now'," she said, according to WVIT.
The day David planned to propose to Heather – Dec. 23, 2016 – was also the day Heather received her breast cancer diagnosis.
He went through with his plans anyway because he didn’t want her to go it alone.
"A pair of draft horses, a carriage, and I arranged it all for that night. We went out on the carriage ride and I proposed to her under a street light," David said.
Heather would battle a triple negative breast cancer diagnosis – one of the most aggressive forms of cancer - with the support of David and Karas.
The wedding was originally supposed to take place Dec. 30, but doctors urged David to move up the ceremony as Heather’s health took a turn.
Both David and Karas said Heather never gave up and stayed positive and joyful until the end.
"Heather said, 'I want to keep fighting,' so that's the mantra I'm picking up. She was able to fight until the end, I'm going to fight until my end," David said.
