Phone Company Serves Domestic Violence Victims

AUGUST 11, 2005 -- A cell phone company is offering its services to help domestic violence victims.

Verizon Wireless is giving the New Hanover County domestic violence shelter 50 free voicemail boxes.

The voicemails are private. They're meant to empower victims by giving them their own lines of communication that abusers cannot control.

When Verizon begins offering cell phone coverage in our area, spokepeople say they will also offer the shelter phones.
