Cucalorus Festival: Film stars CFCC student turned Calvin Klein model

CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WECT) - A filmmaker calls his Southern Gothic movie a "love letter to Carolina Beach." The film, Moss, was shot in some of the beach town's most scenic spots.

The film stars Mitchell Slaggert, a former Cape Fear Community College student who is now a Calvin Klein underwear model.

In 2015 at the Cucalorus Festival in Wilmington, Peddle discovered Slaggert, who walking to his car outside Cape Fear Community College. Peddle cast him in Moss.

Slaggert is now a professional model, who is featured in Calvin Klein underwear advertisements.

Daniel Peddle wrote and directed Moss, a coming-of-age story about a troubled man who meets a mysterious hiker along a river.

Peddle, who lives in New York, said his family has a cottage in Carolina Beach, which is one of the reasons he wanted to shoot the film there.

Peddle describes the film as a portrait of rural North Carolina and the lives that are deeply connected to nature.

It debuted at the LA Film Festival and will be screened at the Cucalorus Festival Nov. 12.
