The Pender County Department of Social Services will begin taking applications for its low-income energy assistance program (LIEAP) Dec. 1.
LIEAP's aim is to help eligible families pay their heating expenses through a one-time annual vendor payment. Households must be responsible for their heating expenses and meet income and other eligibility criteria.
From Dec. 1-31, applications will be taken for households with a person age 60 and older or a disabled person receiving SSI, SSA or VA benefits and receiving services through the Division of Aging and Adult Services. From Jan. 2-March 31, applications will be taken for any household as long as funds are available.
Approval will be based on the availability of funds once all application information is received. Payments will be made directly to the heating provider.
