WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) -

Wilmington Christian Academy held its second Farm Fest Field Day in partnership with Special Olympics Wednesday.

The field day had everything from farm-themed field games to inflatable bouncy houses and even farm animals for petting.

Tonya Upton, the organizer of the field day, said the idea to host this came about in 2015 when the high school students were trying to figure out what to do with their field day.

They decided they wanted to give back to the community so they came up with the idea to host the Farm Fest Field Day specifically for the people in the Special Olympics in New Hanover County.

Upton said over 600 people from the Special Olympics attended Farm Fest. She loves seeing the unification between the high school students and those from the Special Olympics.

"[It's] just overwhelming with joy and just looking around and seeing how much fun they're having, it's just a wonderful day," Upton said.
