LELAND, NC (WECT) -

The North Carolina Virtual Academy (NCVA) is an online public charter school that has allowed 15-year-old Madison Toney, of Leland, to pursue her dreams of being a traveling dancer.

Toney practices dance 35 hours a week and has traveled from Las Vegas to Nashville and everywhere in between. Her schedule makes it difficult to attend a traditional brick and mortar school.

Since NCVA is entirely online, Toney is able to complete her schoolwork anywhere with an internet connection, any time of day. This flexibility has been instrumental in her dance career as she can travel freely without having to worry about missing class - as her class travels with her.

Toney recently competed in the National Dance Honors and won the title of, Miss Teen Distinguished Dancer. She will now perform and be recognized at Adrenaline and Revive dance competitions across the country.

Additionally, she won the Miss Teen National Title for OnStage in Hilton Head, SC, and will now dance across the country at OnStage Dance competitions.

NCVA is authorized by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction. It is part of the public school system and tuition is free.

The K12 high school program provides students with a diverse catalog of more than 150 courses in addition to teachers, advisors, counselors, coordinators and other educational personnel who offers personalized support to students.
