Coastal Christian soccer knocks off defending state champs

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Coastal Christian's boys' soccer team is headed back to the state championship game after losing in the final a year ago.

Coastal knocked off Asheville Christian 3-0 in the state semifinals on Tuesday night. Asheville Christian beat the Centurions for the state title last season.

"Revenge was part of it, and it felt good to get it," said Matt Ward, who assisted on two of Coastal's three goals Tuesday. "But it's about these guys right here. It's about the brotherhood...and working to get back to the state championship. We want to win it this time. We are going to win it this time."

The state championship game is scheduled for Saturday at noon in High Point at Westchester Country Day School. Coastal will play the Fayetteville Academy-Westchester Country Day winner for the title.
