It may feel like we just got out of the election season, but believe it or not it’s time to go the polls again. The chances are good that you don’t believe it, or you probably don’t care about it, but you should.
The elections this November are municipal races. Most likely you will be voting for a mayor or members of your town’s council. And historically, few people tend to vote in these elections.
But here’s why you should exercise your right.
With such little turnout, every vote really does count. Many of these elections end within the margin of error for a recount. And some even end up with unusual outcomes.
You might remember in 2015, a race in Clarkton in Bladen County came down to the simple luck of the flip of a coin. That was the only remedy after the race ended in a tie.
If you want to make a difference - start local. Take a few minutes. Go to the polls. Make your voice heard.
That’s my turn. Now it’s your turn. To comment on this segment, or anything else, email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
