WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) -

Walking is a way to better health. Having a doctor join you on those walks can help you learn as you get lean.

Dr. Brian Lanier with Promina Health in Wilmington is holding the first Walk with a Doc event on Saturday at 9 a.m. The walk begins at the Midtown YMCA on 709 George Anderson Drive and will go through Halyburton Park.

Before the walk begins, participants will have a few minutes to discuss health topics with Lanier. It is free, open to the community and no registration is required.

"Exercise is better than any medication a doctor can prescribe," Lanier said. "I'm excited to bring this simple, yet effective, community program to Wilmington, and help people take a step toward better health."

Sidewalks and paths are accessible for strollers or people with limited mobility.

Future walks will be announced on the Walk with a Doc website and the Promina Health Facebook page.
