WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - For more than a century, a women's group has supported good causes in our community.
Each year, The Ministering Circle hosts its Red Apron Gourmet Sale at the Elks Lodge on Oleander Drive.
Two of the group's members -- Cathy Halligan and Margaret Robison -- were on WECT's First at Four Thursday to talk about the sale, which lasts from 10-11:30 a.m. on Saturday.
Lines usually begin to form 30-45 minutes before the sale and admission is free. While in line, customers can buy raffle tickets and $5 cookbooks that contain recipes for items available at the sale.
Money raised goes toward scholarships at UNCW and Cape Fear Community College and humanitarian and healthcare services in the Cape Fear Region.
Raffle sale items include a four-course dinner at the new Benny's Big Time Pizzeria, a signed Vivian Howard cookbook, credits at local retailers such as Cape Fear Jewelry and Antiques and Protocol Gifts and more. You do not need to be present to win raffle items.
Gourmet items for sale include frozen homemade casseroles, soups, chowders, stuffed potatoes, ham biscuits, pickles, relishes, jellies, cakes, pies, cheese straws and biscuits.
Hand-knitted baby clothing and blankets and Rada knives and products will also be on sale.
Credit cards, cash, and checks will be accepted.
