Wilmington's self-proclaimed most haunted house is hosting spooky, but educational tours just in time for Halloween.
The Latimer House Museum is honoring the dead with guided tours Oct. 26-28 that will include information on Victorian mourning practices.
According to Travis Gilbert of the Lower Cape Fear Historical Society, part of the exhibition features funeral invitations of four Latimer children who died as infants, Elizabeth Savage Latimer's circa 1850 mourning dress and post-mortem photography.
In keeping with the Halloween spirit, the historical society is holding a Victorian All Hallows Eve Wake at the Latimer House on Oct. 27 from 6-9 p.m. with hor d'oeuvres, beverages, live music, costumed living historians, tarot card readings, mock amputations and more.
