Bond set at $1 million for suspect who tried to elude vice-narcotics detectives

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) -

A man who attempted to flee from law enforcement Wednesday is in the New Hanover County Detention Center under a bond of just over $1 million.

According to Lt. Jerry Brewer with the New Hanover County Sheriff's Office, the department's Vice-Narcotics Unit was conducting an investigation of Diquelle Jashaun Sweet. When detectives attempted to stop Sweet's vehicle Wednesday, he fled the scene before being stopped a short time later and taken into custody.

Sweet has been charged with:

  • possession of a firearm by felon
  • maintaining a vehicle/dwelling for a controlled substance
  • possession of marijuana under a 1/2 ounce
  • five counts sell/deliver Schedule I controlled substance
  • four counts possession with the intent to manufacture/sell/deliver a Schedule I controlled substance
  • three counts manufacture/sell/deliver/possession a controlled substance at child care center
  • resist/delay/obstruct public officers
  • speeding to elude arrest with aggravating factors
  • hit/run/failure to stop/leaving the scene of property damage
