Second motorcyclist dies from weekend crash in Columbus County

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WECT) -

A second motorcyclist has died following a deadly crash in Columbus County over the weekend.

According to the State Highway Patrol, John Nash III, 30, of Franklinton, NC, passed away at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center in Myrtle Beach Thursday morning.

The fatal collision happened on NC 410 in Tabor City just before 1 p.m. Sunday. According to troopers, two motorcycles were stopped in the roadway at the site of another crash when a Jeep behind the motorcycles failed to stop and struck them.

Nash and Whitney Jackson, 29, also of Franklinton, were on one of the motorcycles. Jackson died at the scene. Nash was initially taken to the hospital in critical condition.

The two riders on the second motorcycle were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

State Highway Patrol officials said charges are still pending against the driver of the Jeep.
