PENDER COUNTY, NC (WECT) -

The Pender County Sheriff's Office is investigating a third overnight break-in at the Village Pharmacy in Hampstead.

Owner Beth Caveness said on Saturday night, someone broke in using the pharmacy's backdoor. They broke into the locked area where prescriptions are stored and stole narcotics.

Caveness said she believes it is the same person breaking in, but they have not yet been identified by the sheriff's office. Caveness said after the first two burglaries, she installed windshield glass and bars on her windows, but said the thief still found a way in.

"I’m sick of him, I want to see him behind bars, I’ve had enough,” she said.

Caveness said the thief was in the store under four minutes total, but damaged three pharmacy windows and a backdoor using an ax.

She believes the burglaries are a symptom of the opioid epidemic, and that the person stealing the drugs is selling them.

“I feel like every time this guy comes in here and steals tens of thousands of dollars worth of drugs it gets out on the street and people are overdosing, it’s harming the kids besides what it’s doing to me personally,” Caveness said.

She added that in her 16 years as a business owner, she was never robbed until this summer. Caveness said she has since ordered a safe to store narcotics behind the counter.

Village Pharmacy is now offering a $2,500 reward for any information that leads to an arrest. If you know anything about the theft, contact Detective Leatherwood with the Pender County Sheriff's Office at (910) 470-9800.
