UNCW baseball shuts out Czech Republic 4-0

WILMINGTON, NC (UNCW News Release) - Seven UNCW pitchers combined to shutout the Czech Republic National Team on three hits as the Seahawks posted a 4-0 win on Wednesday in an exhibition game at Brooks Field.

The win moved UNCW to 3-0 all-time against the Czech team with the last win coming in 2015.

Alex Royalty picked up the win as he and Zarion Sharpe both pitched two innings and UNCW grabbed a 1-0 lead in the second inning.

Jan Novak took the loss after allowing four runs on six hits and a walk in 5.1 innings of work.
Mason Berne and David Sheaffer both had two hits for UNCW while Zack Canada knocked in two runs with a bases-loaded single in a three-run third inning.

How it happened: In the UNCW second inning, Sheaffer singled with one out and later scored from first on a double to left off the bat of Kep Brown with two out.

Notes: Also pitching for UNCW with one inning apiece were Logan Beehler, Blake Morgan, Blake Deatherage, Austin Warren and Austin Easter … Seahawk pitchers struck out 11 and walked none … Jackson Meadows made the start in centerfield and had a hit and a stolen base on the afternoon … Ryan Jeffers doubled for the Seahawks … UNCW allowed just two leadoff hitters to reach base … The game was played in a crisp 2:18.

Next up: The Seahawks will scrimmage on Oct. 13 at 6 p.m.
