The 28th annual Take Back the Night march and rally will be held Thursday, Oct. 12, at in downtown Wilmington.
Organizers say that the event "strives to unite community members in an effort to raise awareness about the issue of domestic violence, while supporting and empowering survivors of domestic violence."
A march through downtown will begin at 6:30 p.m. to help raise awareness of domestic violence.
At approximately 7 p.m., the rally will begin at the Alton Lennon federal Building.
WECT's Kim Ratcliff will emcee the event.
Shequana Pulliam Sidberry, whose sister Tarica Pulliam was killed by an ex-boyfriend in 2008, will be the keynote speaker. Sidberry works as a victim witness legal assistant for the New Hanover County District Attorney's Office.
