SOUTHPORT, NC (WECT) - Keep It Reel from Southport took home first place at the 39th annual U.S. Open King Mackerel Tournament over the weekend.
Angler Marc Treurniet reeled in a 49.75-pound king mackerel to take the title and a $25,000 prize,
Casey Forester and the Nautley Crew of Mooresville took second with a 43.85-pound catch, while Tony Morgan and Salt Therapy from Oak Island were third with a 41.85-pounder.
Bonner D. Herring and Capt. Boo Too from Southport was the biggest money winner from the Open with a total of $71,495. The boat finished fourth in the largest king mackerel category as well as second in the King Tournament in a Tournament, second in the High Roller Tournament in a Tournament, first in the Lady on Board Tournament Within a Tournament, first in the Super High Roller and won the Senior Angler Aggregate Prize.
