JULY 28, 2005 -- The city of Southport is now in the running to own and operate the state's marina.
At a meeting Thursday morning, the State Ports Board of Directors unanimously voted to consider transferring ownership of the Southport marina to the city.
The board isn't ruling out the other bids, consisting of 12 private offers which range from $2-million to $16-million.
Some Southport residents say the 43-acre property is worth more.
There isn't any word yet as to when the board will make a decision on the property.
