Fall Week recipe: Crunchy Caramel Apple Pie

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - There's nothing like an apple pie in the fall.

Our Fall Week continues on WECT News First at Four with a recipe for Crunchy Caramel Apple Pie that you will love.

Christi Ferretti, the owner of Pine Valley Market in Wilmington, joined us on the show us how to make her recipe.


  • Pastry Crust 1 9-inch deep dish
  • Sugar 1/2 cup
  • AP Flour 3 Tbls
  • Cinnamon 1 tsp
  • Salt 1/8 tsp
  • Apples Thick sliced 8 cups
  • Pecans chopped ½ cup
  • Caramel Topping ¼ cup cup
  • Crumb Topping:
  • Brown Sugar 1 cup
  • AP Flour 1/2 cup
  • Rolled Oats 1/2 cup
  • Butter Room temp 1/2 cup


In a large mixing bowl, mix together sugar, flour, and oats.

Crumble in butter with hands until ingredients are fully incorporated. Set aside

In a large mixing bowl, combine sugar, flour, cinnamon, and salt.

Add apple slices and gently toss until completely coated.

Transfer apple mixture to the pie shell, and top with crumb topping.

Place pie on baking sheet to catch drippings.

Cover edges with aluminum foil, and bake at 375 degrees for 25 minutes.

Then remove foil and bake for another 25-30 minutes.

Remove from oven, sprinkle pie with chopped pecans and drizzle with caramel sauce.
