UNCW associate professor awarded $1.5 million grant to study future of coastal communities

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - A UNCW associate professor received a $1.5 million grant to study the future of coastal communities.

Dylan McNamara, associate professor and chair of the UNCW Department of Physics and Physical Oceanography, will be our guest on WECT News First at Four Friday (Sept. 29).

The National Science Foundation grant will allow McNamara to investigate how public policies will affect both economic decisions and the coastal environment.

McNamara leads team of researchers from seven universities, including UNCW, Duke, UNC-Chapel Hill, the University of Georgia, The Ohio State University, East Carolina University and the University of Colorado.

The team will look at economic decisions and public policies to determine how the environment and population increases respond to rising seas and related coastline changes.

The four-year project is already underway.
