TABOR CITY, NC (WECT) -

A Fair Bluff man died from a gunshot wound Saturday night in Columbus County and the sheriff's office is investigating the incident as a homicide.

Around 9:30 p.m. Saturday, the sheriff's office received a call to 366 PD Branch Drive in Tabor City in reference to a possible assault.

When deputies arrived on scene they found Ricky Long, 57, of Fair Bluff, dead.

Columbus County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Michele Tatum said Tuesday that an autopsy performed by the state medical examiner's office determined Long's cause of death was a gunshot wound.
