WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) -

The Funeral Consumers Alliance Coastal Carolina held a Death Expo at the UNCW Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship Sunday, 1-3 p.m.

Organizers said they held the event to inform the community that it's never too early to start getting your affairs in order.

"We think that it’s an event for all ages. Our motivation is to encourage people to plan ahead and know that there are a lot of options out there and when the event happens it’s a little too late to explore your options or to really understand what’s available to you at the time," said Delyn Fritz, Vice President of the Funeral Consumers Alliance Coastal Carolina.

Local funeral homes, florists, estate and financial planners and hospice gave advice and resources to those who attended.

Because losing a loved one is hard, the Funeral Consumer's Alliance thinks that funeral planning should not be.

“People who are willing to talk about the death care industry or death in general are so few and far between. You just can’t find anyone to talk about it. And when you do start talking about it people look at you like you’re strange. So, it’s good to find some like-minded people,” said Noel Wheeler.

They are a non-profit, national organization dedicated to providing information and resources to people exploring all options for final arrangements.
