GREENVILLE, North Carolina – Junior Courtney Cash scored two goals to lead East Carolina to a 3-0 victory over UNCW at Johnson Soccer Stadium on Thursday evening.
The Pirates increase their record to 5-2-1 after ending a three-game winless streak while UNCW drops to 3-5-1.
Cash gave the Pirates a 1-0 lead in the 25th minute when she took a long volley pass from freshman Cashlin Copley and chipped in her third goal of the season past freshman goalkeeper Sydney Schneider.
With 3:59 remaining in the opening stanza, Sanford increased the margin to 2-0 when she netted her first career goal off assists from redshirt senior Jenna Geist and sophomore Daria Draovitch.
The Pirates upped the advantage to 3-0 in the 56th minute when Cash scored her second goal of the contest on a breakaway after receiving a pass from Sanford.
Coach Paul Cairney Says: “We started with great energy and played on our front foot for the first 20 minutes. We created good pressure and had some good chances to score. The goal we gave up swung the game away from us and we need to do much better in how we respond. In addition, we have to find a way to play with the speed and physicality needed to play at this level. Credit to East Carolina and Rob (Donnenwirth) on a well-deserved victory. Our young team will find a way to bounce back and get ready for another tough game on Sunday.”
Up Next: The Seahawks complete their non-conference schedule on Sunday, Sept. 17, with a 2 p.m. game against Campbell at UNCW Soccer Stadium.
