Police seek same suspect in three armed robberies

DAPHNE, AL (WALA) -

Daphne and Loxley police say the same suspect robbed businesses in their cities just minutes apart.  Mobile Police said the same suspect may be responsible for a robbery there too.

It was shortly before 3:00 a.m. Monday morning, September 11, 2017 when a lone gunman walked into the Cefco convenience store on Hwy. 181 in Daphne, demanding money and cigarettes.  The surveillance video isn’t the best quality, but it gives a pretty good look at the suspect when he walks in the door.

“As you can see in the video, he put a shirt over his head that blows off a little bit as he comes in the door,” said Cpl. Jason Vanoy with Daphne Police.  “He points a gun at the clerk and goes back behind the counter and he demands cigarettes and the cash that’s in the register.”

The suspect spent nearly two minutes behind the register with his gun visible to the clerk.  Police said the clerk complied and was taunted by the robber.

“He was laughing at her while she was…because she was scared and obviously traumatized and shaking,” Vanoy said.

The store’s assistant manager, Wayne Stevens said the clerk is a new employee and was working her first overnight shift when the robbery happened.  He said she’s still shaken up by the incident and the attitude the robber had towards her.

“He told her that he wasn’t going to shoot her because she was too pretty and then he started laughing,” Stevens said.

Less than 20 minutes later, Loxley Police got a call that a man fitting the same description had just robbed the Waffle House on Highway 59.  Employees told police the suspect left the scene in a small silver sedan heading north on Highway 59.  If you know who he is, call Loxley or Daphne Police.

“Our biggest concern is for the potential of a violent conflict with a victim or with police if he’s caught,” Vanoy said.

Mobile Police believe the same suspect may be responsible for the armed robbery of Baymont Inn in Tillman’s Corner early Sunday morning, September 10, 2017.
