Executive Director of Thalian Association Fired

JULY 20, 2005 -- There is a big shake up involving one of the region's oldest theatre groups.

For more than two hundred years, the Thalian Association has produced plays in Wilmington.

Now the board that runs the group has fired Executive Director Sam Garner. They say he admitted using association money to buy close to $2000 worth of personal items such as cigarettes and clothing.

Garner's credits include producing "Annie" and other shows at Thalian Hall.

Board member Gilbert Burnett says it was hard to fire Garner but the show will go on. He says Garner has paid the money back.
