JULY 20, 2005 -- The man who took police on a two-county chase made his first court appearance through a video feed from the jail Tuesday.
Authorities say Lawrence Wainwright was driving a stolen white pick-up truck Monday night. The chase began when Brunswick County deputies responded to a breaking and entering call.
They say they saw Wainwright leave that scene and chased him down Highway 74-76, across the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge and eventually ended up on River Road near Wilmington.
Officers used what they call stop sticks to puncture Wainwright's tires.
He's now facing charges including DWI and assault with a deadly weapon. Authorities say he tried to ram two sheriff's office cars with the truck.
Monday, a judge ordered him held on a $50,000 bond.
