Residents Form Committee Against Marina Sale

JULY 19, 2005 -- News that the State Ports Authority is considering bids for the Southport marina has many residents joining an opposition group.

The marina houses hundreds of boats. Operators lease the land from the authority.

Concerned residents are worried if the authority sells the land to a private owner, they will lose water access and boat slips. Now they have formed the "Committee to Save the Southport Marina." Already, the group has collected 1,200 signatures opposing the sale.

If you would like to voice your opinion on the marina, a public meeting will be held July 27 at 3:00pm inside the South Brunswick High School cafeteria. Speakers need to pre-register by emailing this address:

Include your name, phone number and address and indicate you would like to speak at the meeting.
