JULY 19, 2005 -- If you have an old cell phone lying around your house that you don't know what to do with, don't just toss it in the trash. They can go to a good cause.
Cell phones are basically made of plastic, metals and rubber. Those are materials the Enviromental Protection Agency says could be recycled and should not be thrown away.
Many carriers and nonprofit organizations make it easy for you to drop off and donate your phone and accessories, and they'll take care of the rest.
If you're an animal lover you can also donate your phone to "Phones for Bones," a program sponsored by Paws Place. The money goes toward helping take care of the animals at the shelter.
