Drunk Driver Kills Man in Brunswick County

JULY 18, 2005 -- The mother of two small children is in critical condition and her husband is dead after an accident involving a drunk driver.

Phillip Gardner of Mount Holly was killed when a drunk driver hit his car on Highway 130 near the Brunswick/Columbus county line Saturday.

Gardner, his wife, and two children were on their way to the beach for a vacation.

The driver of the truck, Ramiro Gallegos, is charged with DWI and 2nd degree murder.

At last check, Gardner's wife was in the hospital in critical condition. The two children were treated and released. Authorities say their child safety seats saved their lives.
