JULY 13, 2005 -- Strong storms blew through the Wilmington area late Wednesday afternoon, knocking out power and sending firefighters scrambling from one lightning strike to another.
From Carolina Beach Road to Porter's Neck to Holly Ridge, reports of heavy rain and lightning strikes came pouring in.
Traffic lights were out in areas and drivers had a hard time seeing on the roads.
A home on Salo Drive in Wilmington was struck by lightning and caught fire. That was just one of many reports of lightning hitting buildings and trees. So far there are no reports of any serious injuries.
