Educators Discuss Uniforms at NHC Schools

JULY 12, 2005 -- Back to school shopping is fun for some students, but kids in New Hanover County could have one less thing to buy in the future. They may not have to buy their school clothes.

Tuesday night, school board members discussed requiring students to wear uniforms in the classroom.

The school board last considered uniforms back in 1999. Board members decided instead to go with a dress code.

Some members now believe going to uniforms would make the schools safer and allow kids to focus more on learning.

Some students feel uniforms would be too restrictive.
