Advisories Dropped After Sewage Spill

JULY 11, 2005 -- State environmental health officials lifted advisories Sunday against swimming in waterways near Hewletts Creek.

Just last week in Wilmington, more than three million gallons of raw sewage leaked into the creek.

The North Carolina Division of Environmental Health says water testing shows bacteria levels had dropped below safe standards for swimming and water play in marsh tidal creeks adjacent to Hewletts Creek.

The creek itself still remains off limits to swimming and fishing.
