Possible Marina Sales Worries Some

JUNE 30, 2005 -- The state agency that owns the marina in Southport isn't ruling out selling the facility. It's a possibility that has some residents and boat owners alarmed.

The possibility of a sale surfaced after the State Port Authority received an unsolicited offer for the valuable land.

Wednesday the authority decided to review all offers for the marina at a meeting next month.

Currently the operators of the marina are leasing the land from the authority. All 430 boat slips are in use with a large waiting list.

The State Port Authority wants to hear what Southport residents have to say about a possible sale. There will be a public hearing on the issue but no date has been set.
