JUNE 29, 2005 -- Investigators say they have promising leads that suggest there is a connection between two Carolina Beach fires. If there is, arson is to blame.
Last Friday a fire burned a weekly rental house on Florence Avenue. Fifteen people were inside the house when it caught fire. Everyone managed to get out unharmed.
The second fire Monday morning left the Astor Hotel in ruins. Investigators say they know how the fire started, but aren't releasing any information because it could compromise the investigation.
Police are taking extra security measures around town to prevent an arsonist from striking again. Investigators are urging residents to report any suspicious activities to the police.
There is a $100 to $300 reward for anyone who provides information that leads to an arrest.
