Bill Could Change Age Restrictions for Personal Watercraft

JUNE 29, 2005 -- It looks like young people will have to wait a while before they're old enough to operate jet skis.

Kids will now have to be at least 14 years old to operate personal watercraft in a bill heading to Governor Mike Easley's desk. The age requirement is currently 12.

The jet ski industry supported the change, although a trade group encourages a minimum age of 16 to operate the personal watercraft.
