JUNE 27, 2005 -- The Wilmington Fire Department is getting a pat on the back that will put a smile on the face of business owners.
The fire department received a grade two evaluation from the North Carolina State Fire Marshal Office.
This is the second year in a row the department has received that mark. This ranking puts it among the top seven departments in the state.
Assistant Fire Chief Frank Blackley said insurance companies will consider the accomplishment when setting rates for businesses.
Blackley said the department earned the score because of its large staff, modern equipment and abundance of fire hydrants.
