Casey Golden collected three hits and Clark Cota nailed down his fourth save of the season as UNCW upended Hofstra, 7-4, in the Colonial Athletic Association series opener in Hempstead, NY.

With the win, the Seahawks improved to 17-19 overall and 6-4 in the league. The Pride dropped to 9-16 and 2-8.

Golden raised his batting average to .321, finishing 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Adding two-hit games were Nick Feight and Robbie Thorburn with Feight knocking in two runs and Thorburn scoring twice.

Alex Royalty (6-2) won his third straight start, allowing four runs over 6.2 innings. Cota came on in the eighth with the bases loaded and ended the threat with a double play. He then closed out the game with a perfect ninth inning.

Teddy Cillis, who also was tagged with the loss, had two hits, including his third homer of the season. Rob Weissheier had two hits and Vinnie Costello hit his fourth round tripper of the season.

Cillis dropped to 0-7, after allowing five runs, three earned, over six innings.

Up next: The series continues on Saturday with a 1 p.m. start.

How it happened: UNCW built a 5-0 lead after four innings. In the third, UNCW jumped on Cillis for three runs on three hits and a trio of Pride errors, all with two outs. In the fourth, Cole Weiss and Daniel Stack added to the lead with RBI single and RBI double, respectively.

Home Runs: Hofstra: Cillis (3, off Royalty in the fifth inning, one on, two out), Costello (4, off Royalty, leading off the seventh inning)

Inside the box score: UNCW finished 6-for-13 with RISP while Hofstra went 1-for-7 … Both teams had their leadoff hitter reach base safely four times … Both teams has a pair of two-out RBI's.

Notes: The road win was the second for UNCW this season … Royalty has struck out 28 batters and walked just three over his last 21.2 innings … UNCW is now 35-9 all-time against Hofstra and 17-5 at University Field.
