WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) -
A man was arrested Thursday night after New Hanover County deputies found him in possession of a gun that had been reported stolen earlier in the day.
According to Lt. Jerry Brewer with the New Hanover County Sheriff's Office, a break-in was reported at a residence on Farley Drive Thursday. Employees with a landscaping crew told deputies that they witnessed a suspect loading a flat-screen TV into a vehicle. When confronted by the landscaping crew, the suspect said he was moving out of the residence and left the scene.
Brewer said deputies were investigating a report of suspects using narcotics Thursday night in the 4400 block of Robin Dale Court. Deputies detained suspects in the area and found Scott Stephen Shoff with a firearm that had been reported stolen in the Fairly Drive break-in.
Shoff, 34, was charged with breaking or entering, safecracking and larceny of a firearm. He was booked under a $100,000 bond.
According to New Hanover County court records, Shoff has multiple pending court dates for unrelated offenses including possession with the intent to sell/deliver a controlled substance, obtaining property by false pretenses and several misdemeanor larceny charges.
