WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Hundreds came to a peace rally at Portia Hines Park on Saturday afternoon.
The second annual event was put on by Support the Port, a local non-profit aimed at trying to enhance, cultivate and provide a renewed sense of community in Wilmington.
Support the Port Director Cedric Harrison said he hopes all that came felt a sense of pride in their community.
"I want people to take away positive energy and fellowship and comradery," said Harrison. "Just being able to put action into that energy and just letting it spread throughout the city. However fast or however best as possible."
There were several vendors, music, and games at the rally.
Harrison people had been gathering at the park for years after the Azalea parade, and there was sometimes violence and crime. The reason the event now focuses on peace and justice.
