Rushing floodwater overwhelmed cabins across from the reservoir and a neighborhood in Canton. That's where shell-shocked residents continued clean-up efforts Wednesday.
Forty-eight hours after torrential rains poured into Terry's Cabins location on Rice Road, Murray Lowery was pulling everything out of his home.
"I was just overwhelmed. everything was turned around, upside down," said Lowery. "The refrigerator was in the back. And it was just in shambles everywhere. It's just a big mess."
Cabins were flooded, and cars left behind around 3:00 a.m. Monday.
In Canton, water-logged furniture, and Sheetrock lined Cameron Street and other parts of the neighborhood.
Elderly and disabled residents were rescued by boat, like Mildred Martin
"It was a horror movie, it was a horror," said Martin. "For me, I hop, I got one good leg and they helped me really good to get into the boat."
A Canton municipal utilities manager Monday said runoff from heavy rains often floods this area of Canton. The problem is blamed on poor infrastructure.
