1 out of 3 families can't afford diapers

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) - A new baby is an exciting addition for a family, but it's also a big hit on your bank account.

Some families struggle to afford basic needs, like diapers.

That's where the Diaper Bank of North Carolina Lower Cape Fear steps in, providing diapers, wipes and diaper ointment to the families in need in our community.

One out of three families struggles to afford diapers our area.

The Diaper Bank distributes diapers to local nonprofits, including Smart Start Baby FAST, Catholic Charities, Smart Start Parents as Teachers, New Hanover County Child Protective Services, Family Promise, Interfaith Refugee Ministry and the Open Gate Domestic Violence Shelter.

The organization started in 2015 and distributed 100,000 diapers as of January 2017.
