Seahawk softball sweeps Drexel


WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Sophomore right fielder Kali Jones collected three hits and scored a run as UNCW completed a sweep of its Colonial Athletic Association series over Drexel with a 4-1 victory at Boseman Field on Sunday afternoon.

The Seahawks, who elevated their record to 21-6-1 overall and 3-0 in the CAA, have won a season-high six games in a row after recording the sweep. Drexel dropped to 4-10 overall and 0-3 in the CAA after suffering its ninth loss in the last 10 games.

Jones, who posted her second three-hit game of the season, singled in the second and fourth innings before adding a double to left field in the sixth inning.

Sophomore Rachel Willis drove in a pair of runs for the Seahawks with a sacrifice fly in the first inning and a single in the fifth inning.

Senior Peyton Jordan upped her record to 10-2 after posting her seventh complete game of the season. She allowed one run on three hits while recording five strikeouts and two walks.

Freshman outfielder Taylor Kent paced Drexel with two hits and a run scored.

How It Happened: UNCW overcame an early 1-0 deficit in the bottom of the first inning by scoring on back-to-back sacrifice flies by Willis and sophomore Lacey Fox. The Seahawks added another run on a sacrifice bunt in the second inning before posting an insurance run in the fifth.

Inside the Box Score: UNCW's lead-off hitter reached base in 3-of-6 chances … The Seahawks were 8-for-17 in advancement chances and 3-for-6 with runners on third base … Jordan forced Drexel into nine ground ball outs … The Seahawks did not commit an error for the fifth consecutive game.
