JUNE 21, 2005 -- Investigators say an argument sparked a murder in Leland on Monday afternoon.

Johnetta Duncan, 33, and her father-in-law, Thomas Duncan, 64, were arguing when she came to pick up her child at his house on Friendly Lane.

Thomas Duncan is accused of pulling out a handgun and killing his daughter-in-law. Her body was found on the porch.

Her family rushed to the scene after they found out what had happened.

They say there had been some tension between the two but they didn't expect it to escalate into murder. The violence around the area has neighbors concerned.

Thomas Duncan is being held at the Brunswick County Jail under no bond, facing first degree murder charges.

Johnetta Duncan's body was taken to Jacksonville for an autopsy. Investigators say it was a gunshot in the chest that killed her.
