JUNE 19, 2005 -- One diver has been rescued from the deep waters of the Atlantic Ocean. Crews are still searching for another diver. The two divers had been missing since 1 p.m. Saturday.
Coast Guard officials say Greg Mickey, Colvin Peterson, and Andy Illobre were diving just east of Frying Pan Shoals. They were diving about 30 miles southeast of Bald Head Island.
Officials say Peterson was in the boat and saw Mickey and Illobre surface. Peterson was unable to reach them because of rough seas. That's when the Coast Guard was called in.
Around 9 p.m. Saturday night, the C-130 Coast Guard plane spotted a diver in the water. That diver was Andy Illobre. He was taken to the hospital by helicopter, but has since been treated and released.
As of late Sunday night, crews were still searching for Greg Mickey. The Coast Guard believes Mickey may still be alive.
The Coast Guard held a press conference Monday at noon. WECT News 6 reporter Maggie Alexander is gathering the details of that conference and will have the latest on News 6 First News at 5:00 and News 6 at 6:00.
