JUNE 14, 2005 -- There's a welcome sight for people who fish in the waters off Carolina Beach and the businesses that serve them.
The Carolina Beach Inlet is being dredged for the first time this year. The dredger will work 12 hours a day over the next two and a half weeks.
The inlet has been filling with sand, threatening access for boaters and potentially slowing water rescues.
Congressman Mike McIntyre and other public officials got a first hand look Monday at a project they say has been a challenge to accomplish.
The inlet is scheduled to be dredged again in late August or early September. There's no money yet to continue the work after that.
