Hickory, NC - Cape Fear women’s basketball advanced to the semi-finals of the NJCAA Region X tournament, defeating Brunswick Community College, 61-42.
Nikia Wallace was the team’s leading scorer with 16 points, knocking down four 3-pointers. TaKwana Bland added 11, while Taylor Foulks and Christina Caesar each finished with 10.
Despite the final score line, the Sea Devils struggled in the first half, finishing with 29 at the half but scoring just 10 in the second quarter. However, 23 points in the third quarter broke the game open, and proved the difference.
“We came out a little sluggish in the first half, but picked it up quickly in the start of the third quarter,” said head coach Lori Drake.
While it’s a good start to the tournament, coach Drake made it clear that they will have to remain focused heading into tomorrow’s semi-final game.
“It's tournament time and everyone wants to win. We have to come ready to battle against Catawba Valley tomorrow.”
Tomorrow’s semi-final game against Catawba Valley Community College is scheduled for 2 p.m. The winner will head to the championship game scheduled for 2 p.m., on Saturday, March 11th.
