WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WECT) -

The US Open Beach Fat Bike Championships hits the sand in Wrightsville Beach on Saturday, March 11.

Fat bikes have tires wider than 4 inches.

The course will be a multi-lap event that keeps racers in sight of spectators the whole time. Part of the course will be on tightly packed wet sand closer to the ocean. The other half will be on looser sand that’s harder to pedal through.

Racers will go through tight turns and places where they’ll ride up naturally occurring berms from long shore erosion.

Everyone is invited to come out and cheer on (or heckle) riders.
